Dozens of houses gutted in Korail slum fire

The fire was brought under control at 5:30pm

Dozens of houses were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at Korail slum in Mohakhali area of the capital Sunday afternoon.

Fire Services and Civil Defense members said in a briefing around 30 houses were damaged due to the fire.

Local Awami League leader Babul said a total of 150 shacks and 17 houses were turned to ashes.

Meanwhile, Mokhtar Hossain, one of the victims of the fire, claimed that 62 shacks were burnt on Sunday.

Mokhtar said that it was all over in the blink of an eye. “I could not take anything from my room.”

He said: “On February 16, 12 of my houses were burnt. Now 62 more houses have been gutted.”

In the afternoon, nine units of fire fighters rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control around 5:30pm, a fire service official said.

No injury or casualty was reported.

Earlier, a fire broke out at Korail slum around 11pm on February 16. Later, the fire was extinguished at 11:33pm with the efforts of five units of fire service.
