DMP will not allow gatherings on the streets, says an official

Update : 06 Dec 2022, 02:34 PM

The opposition BNP has to hold its Dhaka rally scheduled for December 10 at Suhrawardy Udyan, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has said.

“The party has made a proposal to hold the rally in the Arambagh area. However, the DMP is adamant about allowing the rally in Suhrawardy Udyan only,” Deputy Commissioner (Media) Faruk Hossain told journalists on Tuesday.

DMP will not allow gatherings on the streets, the official added.

Meanwhile, BNP has decided not to hold the Dhaka divisional rally at Suhrawardy Udyan.

Several members of the standing committee said that the decision was taken in a two-hour virtual meeting with the party's Chairman Tarique Rahman on Monday night.

Sources told the Bangla Tribune that the matter of not holding its biggest rally at Suhrawardy Udyan was finalized on Monday.

Besides, one of the top leaders of BNP also told Bangla Tribune that they have given another option to the government. “If they do not consider it, we will hold our rally at Naya Paltan. In that case, if there is obstruction by the police, that is also a minus point for the government.”

As part of the move to continue the pace of its ongoing movement, the BNP on September 27 announced a series of public rallies in 10 divisional cities.

The party will conclude the divisional programs by holding its last rally in Dhaka on December 10.
