The father of the prime accused who assaulted a Savar college teacher Utpal Kumar Sarker, leading to his death, has been arrested from Kushtia.
Ujjal, the father of 16-year-old Ashraful Islam Jitu, the prime accused was arrested from the Kumarkhali Upazila around 12:30am on Wednesday.
Ashulia Police Inspector Ziaul Haque confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
“He was hiding in the house of a tenant whose hometown is in Kushtia,” he said, adding that he was arrested after police received a tip-off regarding his whereabouts.
Ujjal will be sent to court on Wednesday with a seven-day remand plea.
“He died at Savar Enam Medical College and Hospital at around 5:15am,” Emdadul Haque, sub-inspector (SI) of Ashulia police station told Dhaka Tribune.
Utpal Kumar Sarker, a lecturer in the Political Science Department and chairman of the disciplinary committee at Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia died at Savar Enam Medical College and Hospital on Monday.
Ashraful Islam Jitu, a tenth-grader who is still at large, suddenly struck him with a stump and fled away while he was a girls’ cricket match one side of the field.
