Police beef up security in Dhaka ahead of Padma Bridge inauguration

The law enforcement agency will conduct raids in hostels and dormitories in this connection

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have beefed up their security to foil any sabotage planned by the miscreants ahead of the inauguration of Padma Bridge and Ratha Yatra.

They will conduct raids at residential hotels and dormitories in the capital till June 25. Besides, the law enforcers will increase the number of patrols and check posts in Dhaka. 

Important areas of the city will be monitored by CCTV cameras.

DMP Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam gave the instruction at the monthly crime review meeting of DMP on Sunday.

Officials of the eight crime divisions of the DMP and the Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Division (DB), Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) were present at the meeting. 

Earlier, letters were sent from the DMP headquarters to the officers-in-charge (OCs) and deputy commissioners of each DMP police station.

DMP officials said many VIPs and VVIPs would attend the inauguration of the Padma Bridge. The commissioner instructed to remain vigilant to prevent any untoward situation. 

Members of Detective Branch (DB) of Police will also conduct drives and patrols in plain clothes during this time.
