Police dispersed the demonstrators from main roads

Update : 06 Jun 2022, 02:15 PM

Workers from various ready-made garment (RMG) factories have blocked the roads in Dhaka’s Mirpur area for the third consecutive day.

Agitated garment workers blocked roads in Mirpur 10, 11 and Pallabi areas on Monday morning demanding an increase in salary allowance amid the recent price hike of essentials.

Police baton-charged the crowd and fired tear shells to disperse the protesters.

The protestors also fought back by throwing brick bats but had to retreat to the alleys while the police took position on the main roads.

Kamrul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Kafrul Police Station said that several factory workers have been protesting sporadically since morning. They have been dispersed from the road.

Workers claimed that their salary is not sufficient enough to run their families in recent times as the prices of daily necessities have gone up.
