The government has launched Bangabandhu Wage Earners’ Centre in Dhaka, aiming to provide temporary accommodation to expatriate workers.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed inaugurated the centre in Khilkhet, near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday marking the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said a press release on Saturday.

Wage Earners Welfare Board Director General Md Hamidur Rahman presided over the event.

Speaking at the inauguration program, the minister said that the government has set up the centre for the welfare of the expatriates.

He said he hopes this centre will lessen the plight of the workers going abroad or returning to the country.

He also urged the authorities concerned to ensure the quality of services at the centre.

The Wage Earners Welfare Board under the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment set up the centre on 8,470-acre land.

Expatriates can spend a night at the centre at cost of Tk200.

Now, accommodation for 48 people is available at the centre and it has separate accommodation facilities for men and women.

It also has counseling, first aid, hospitalization and free internet facilities.

To avail the facilities of the centre, the expatriates can apply directly or online with a fee of Tk100.

A single worker can apply for one seat at a time and can stay for a maximum of two nights.
