A worker was killed and two others sustained critical injuries due to an explosion at a steel mill in the capital’s Jatrabari.
The incident was reported around 8:30pm on Tuesday at the Shahariar Steel Mills in Konapara area.
Md Shahin, 25, hailing from Panchagarh, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday morning at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The other injured – Md Akter Hossain, 50, and Md Moin Uddin, 22 – are currently being treated at the same hospital.
One of the workers at the factory Shafiul Islam said that an abandoned pipe exploded while the three workers were melting iron at the factory. They were scalded by the molten metal.
Md Bacchu Mia, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, said that the three workers had severe burns on various parts of their bodies, including their hands and feet.
