Customs intelligence seized 60 gold bars weighing seven kilograms of gold worth around Tk5.4 crore at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday.
On tip-off CIID Deputy Director Sanjida Sharmin received information that a large quantity of gold arrived at the airport on a flight from US Bangla Airlines.
Upon the flight's arrival she conducted a raid and searched seat no 28/A.
Unfortunately, no gold was found.
Later, they interrogated a cleaner named Jamal Bhuiyan and he confessed about carrying and hiding the gold bars in a waste dumping area near Boarding Bridge-9.
The origin of the gold remains undisclosed,
A case has been filed against the cleaner under the Customs Act.
