Law enforcement officials fired teargas at Jamaat-e-Islami men when they tried to hold a mass procession without police permission in Dhaka after Friday prayers as part of an anti-government movement.
The two sides were embroiled in skirmishes in the Malibagh-Mouchak area as of 2:15pm.
Bangla Tribune reporter Abdul Hamid, who was present at the scene, said three-four people had been picked up in a police van from Malibagh Mor.
Another witness said the police had urged the Jamaat men not to go through with the protest, but they had paid the law enforcement officials no heed.
