The much-awaited dream of Dhaka residents has finally come true following inauguration of the first-ever metro rail service in the capital amid much enthusiasm and festivity.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the metro rail service on Wednesday.
The latest addition to Dhaka's public transport started its first journey with passengers at 8am on Thursday morning.
Ignoring the biting cold and foggy winter morning, hundreds of enthusiastic Dhaka residents gathered in front of metro rail stations early morning to enjoy for the first time as Bangladesh's first elevated rail service opens its door to the public.
The long queues were seen in front of the metro rail stations for tickets hours before the metro trains started their journey with passengers at 8am.
The presence of women passengers were visible from the metro rail stations that left from Agargaon station for Uttara in the morning.
