A student of Dhaka University, a resident of its Shahid Serjeant Zahurul Huq Hall, drowned in a pond of the dormitory on Sunday.
The deceased is Polash Ahmed, 22, a third-year student of the Department of Anthropology who hailed from Jamalpur.
Polash’s friends rescued him from the pond and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He breathed his last at the ICU of the hospital at around 2:30pm, said Bacchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost.
Saidul Kader, a witness, said: “Polash drowned in the pond while taking a bath. Some students of the hall rescued him before the Fire Service team arrived."
