A security guard was run over and killed by a police van in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area on Monday night.
Belayet Hossain, 55, was crossing the Lake Road when the police vehicle hit him, said his younger brother Abu Sayeed.
He received critical injuries on the head, Sayeed added.
Belayet was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
A resident of the capital’s Lalbagh area, Belayet used to guard light bulbs in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.
Asif Ibn Amez, sub-inspector at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, confirmed the matter.
He said that the body was handed over to the family without an autopsy.
The family did not file any complaint over the death.
