The husband and wife, who suffered burn injuries in a house fire in Dhaka’s Jatrabari on Tuesday, have succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Abdul Karim, 30, and his wife Khadija Begum, 25, died minutes apart in the early hours of Monday at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Their one-year-old daughter, Fatema, is in critical condition with 35% burns, said Inspector Bacchu Mia of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital’s police outpost.
Meanwhile, an investigation by police and Titas Gas authority revealed Karim’s kitchen was filled with cooking gas from an open gas cylinder connection. Flames erupted when Khadija switched on their stove.

Sabiul Awal, manager of Titas Gas Distribution Company’s Dhaka South branch told an online newspaper on Monday that they found a LP gas cylinder in the kitchen along with the pipeline connection of Titas Gas.
“We did not find any fault in the gas line, so the fire may have started from the cylinder,” he said.
