The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) claims to have arrested four persons, including the mastermind in the attack that left Awami League leader Jahidul Islam Tipu and a bystander killed last week in Dhaka.
The arrests were made from different areas of Dhaka, its Legal and Media Wing said in a message at midnight on Friday, but did not disclose the suspects’ identities.
The elite police unit said further details will be provided at a press call on Saturday.
Earlier, the Detective Branch (DB) arrested two suspects over the killing – Masum Mohammad Akash on March 26 and Arfan Ullah Damal on March 31.
Police were granted a one-day remand for Damal on Friday and a seven-day remand for Akash on March 28.
Akash is a contract killer, who was hired to carry out the attack, police say.
Fifty-five-year-old Tipu, a former general secretary of the ruling party’s Motijheel unit, was shot dead in the capital’s Shahjahanpur on the night of March 24.

A 22-year-old bystander, Samia Afnan Prity, also died in the attack after a stray bullet hit her.
CCTV footage shows Tipu sitting on the front passenger seat of his microbus during the incident. The vehicle was headed from AGB Colony towards Khilgaon level-crossing.
As it was stuck in traffic near the local branch of Islami Bank, a man wearing a helmet opened fire through the side window of the vehicle. He then crossed the street and fled the area on a motorcycle driven by another person.
According to police, Tipu was accused and arrested in the 2013 murder of Jubo League leader Reazul Haque Khan Milky, but was later relieved of the charges.
