Four members of a family, including two children, sustained burn injuries after a fire broke out in Badda area of Dhaka on Wednesday following a gas cylinder explosion.

The injured were identified as Sahid, 38, his wife Rekha, 29, their daughter Safa, 9, and son Safiyan, 7.

Among them, the condition of Sahid and Rekha are critical, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Mehedi Hasan of Badda police station.

According to preliminary investigation, the fire originated after a gas cylinder exploded in a flat on the second floor of the three-storey building known as Zakir Hazi’r resident in East Para of Beraid area at around 3am.

A family member of the injured filed a general diary in this regard, said SI Mehedi.

Ershad Hossain, duty officer of the Fire Service Control Room, told reporters that a leak in the gas supply line in the flat might have caused the fire.

On information, firefighters rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after an hour.

The injured were taken to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery for treatment.

Residential Surgeon Dr SM Aiyub Hossain said that Sahid might needed to be shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as his condition deteriorated.
