Police held a man on suspicion of killing his wife by suffocation in Savar on Friday.
Accused Shagor Mia, 28, from Joypurhat district, has been detained for preliminary interrogation.
Police recovered the body of 20-year-old Mohsina Begum from Enam Medical College and Hospital, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Abdul Haque of Savar police.
Citing the relatives of the deceased, he said that Shagor had whisked away Mohsina from her house and married her about two months ago.
The woman was rescued by the relatives from her rented house in Jamsing area of Savar. Later, they rushed her to the hospital on Friday morning where the doctors on duty declared her dead.
Mohsina’s family members alleged that she had been strangled to death by her husband due to a family quarrel.
They also said that there were marks of injuries on different parts of her body.
“The victim’s body has been sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. After receiving the medical report, it can be confirmed whether it was murder or suicide,” the SI added.
