Dhaka's rail communication with Chittagong and Sylhet was snapped on Friday after a gas-laden lorry collided with a train in Gazipur.
At least people were injured in the accident that took place near Mirerbazar area in Gazipur around 6:50pm.
The injured are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, confirmed Tongi Railway Station Master Halimuzzaman to Dhaka Tribune.
He said that a lorry of JMI Group containing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) suddenly broke down while crossing the rail tracks near Mirerbazar area.
At one point, the lorry was hit by a passenger train – Titas Commuter – that was headed to Chittagong from Dhaka. The collision left the lorry split in half.

Contacted, Narsingdi Railway police outpost Sub-Inspector (SI) Shah Alam said: “Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence are working to move the lorry from the accident spot. Rail communication will return to normal soon after the salvage operation ends.
“The accident caused immense suffering to the passengers of the commuter train.”
The incident took place only a day after Dhaka-bound Jamalpur Commuter train slipped off the tracks just before entering Dhirashram station, cutting off Dhaka's rail communication with the country’s northern region.
