708 arrested in Dhaka on 11th day of lockdown

Eight mobile courts realise Tk5.4 lakh from 184 people in the capital

The law enforcers arrested 708 people from different areas of the capital on Sunday for breaching the rules of ongoing lockdown that began on July 1, according to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of DMP’s Media and Public Relations Iftekharul Islam said that eight crime and traffic divisions conducted mobile courts simultaneously in Ramna, Lalbagh, Motijheel, Wari, Tejgaon, Mirpur, Gulshan and Uttara areas from morning to evening. 

The mobile courts fined 184 people and collected Tk5.4 lakh from them as fines. Besides, 244 vehicles were fined Tk52.5 lakh under the Road Transport Act. 

The drives were conducted as per the government directives aiming at containing the outbreak of the Covid-19. 

As many as 106 executive magistrates are conducting mobile courts across the country. 

People are allowed to come out of their homes in case of an emergency.  

Public transport services have remained suspended since July 1, and only emergency services vehicles are allowed on the streets, while all government and private offices are closed.
