Police have filed a case against several unidentified people for causing death by negligence over the blast in a Moghbazar building that left seven people dead.
Ramna Model Police Station OC Monirul Islam told Dhaka Tribune that the case was lodged around 12:10am Tuesday by Sub-Inspector Rezzaul Karim under Section 304(A) of the Penal Code.
Responding to a question, the OC said that the unknown people can be anyone connected to that building, including its owner, tenants, or the utility services people.
Any one of them could have left the sewerage pipe open in front of that three-storey building and caused a gas buildup that may have led to the explosion on the ground floor, he said.
"After the investigation, we will sort out who was negligent and accelerated the explosion and charge them,” the OC added.
According to Section 304(A) of the Penal Code, which addresses death by negligence, whoever causes the death of any person by doing any rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to [five] years, or with fine, or with both.

Seven people were killed and more than 50 others injured after the powerful explosion ripped through the building near Moghbazar Wireless Gate on Sunday evening.
“The case statement says that six people have died so far as we had official confirmation about them,” OC Monirul said. "We learned about the seventh deceased after the case was filed. We are yet to get the documents regarding this death."
Police Headquarters in a media statement on Monday said it had formed a seven-member committee to investigate the blast.
It said that the committee will investigate the explosion and recommend prevention of such incidents in future. It will also coordinate with the five-member committee formed by the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Both committees were given seven working days to submit their findings.
