The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested a woman on charges of killing her husband and slicing his body into pieces.

Fatema Begum Shilpi, 32, was arrested at noon on Monday in Banani on suspicion of being involved in the disappearance of her husband, Moyna Miah, 40, a resident of Kishoreganj.

Fatema, the first wife of the deceased, admitted that she had killed her husband as he was giving more attention to his younger second wife, Nasreen, said police.

According to police, Moyna Miah lived with Fatema in Dhaka’s Korail slum while Nasreen stayed in Kishoreganj. Moyna and Fatema were parents of two children.

On Sunday night, police recovered a body part of a man inside an empty drum. They found the remaining parts of the body, except the head, at Mohakhali bus stand later that night.

DB Joint Commissioner Harunor Rashid at a press briefing on Tuesday said the police had identified the deceased with his fingerprints and later apprehended Fatema, who was working at an office in Banani as a cook, following the trail of clues.

Police detained Fatema as they had found her statement suspicious and eventually recovered Moyna’s head from Banani Lake on the basis of the information gleaned from the woman.

Moyha Miah was an auto rickshaw driver in Kishoreganj and mostly stayed with his second wife following their marriage, Harunor Rashid said.

Upset, Fatema decided to kill Moyna a couple of days earlier and bought some sleeping pills which she used in making her husband lose consciousness on Sunday.

Later, she hacked Moyna to death and chopped him into six pieces, the police official said, adding that she had dumped the body parts at three places by hiring a rickshaw for Tk1,300.

Police were looking for the puller of the rickshaw as he might have known about the dead body, said the joint commissioner.

Nasreen, Moyna’s second wife, had named Fatema as the sole accused in the case she filed with Banani police station, he added.
