A 36-year-old Bangladeshi expatriate heading for Dubai has been found dead on the Kuril flyover in Khilkhet, Dhaka.
The deceased is Subhash Chandra Sutradhar, a resident of Bogra’s Shibganj upazila. He got married in November.
Police said they recovered the body with a gamchha (traditional cotton towel) tied around the neck at around 5:30pm on Thursday.
The victim was bleeding, with bruises found on his face, when the law enforcers found his body lying on the flyover. The passport in his possession helped confirm his identity, police said.
According to Subhash’s brother-in-law Krishna Sutradhar, the victim had returned home from Dubai in November last year and got married a few days later.
“As his leave was nearing an end, Subhash travelled to Dhaka from Bogra to catch his flight back to Dubai at midnight on Saturday.
Subhash was carrying Tk65,000 and a mobile phone with him while journeying to Dhaka on a microbus-- none of which was with him after his body was found, Krishna said.
“It appears that the muggers took away the money and the cell phone after strangling him with the gamchha before dumping his body on the flyover,” Krishna said.
Khilkhet police station Officer-in-Charge Mir Sabbir said Subhash’s uncle had seen him off at a bus stoppage in Shibganj on Wednesday evening.
“We’re not sure how he came to Dhaka. However, no money or cell phone was in his possession when we found his body,” the police officer said.
