NSU holds seminar on Chikungunya awareness

Update : 11 Jul 2017, 11:55 PM
North South University (NSU) organised a seminar titled: Creation of Awareness for Prevention of Chikungunya in Bangladesh on Tuesday at their Bashundhara campus. Keynote speakers included Dr Meerjady Sabrina Flora, director, Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDC&R) & National Influenza Centre (NIC) Bangladesh and Professor GU Ahsan, pro vice-chancellor (designate), NSU. Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans by infected Aedes mosquitoes. The most prominent symptom is severe joint pain and swelling. Sabrina said: “There’s no commercial chikungunya vaccine. The best way to treat the symptoms  is to get plenty of rest, drink fluids and take paracetamol.” Prof Ahsan added that NSU is willing to conduct necessary workshops in effective mosquito eradication programmes in the entire Bashundhara Residential Area to help lessen the spread of this ailment.
