Police recovered the hanging bodies of a man and his son from a fourth-floor flat of a building in Nayatola area of Moghbazar, Dhaka on Wednesday evening.
Family members and police identified the deceased as Khairul Islam Shohag, 55, and his son 14-year-old Shaharat Islam Arin.
Hatirjheel police station Inspector Mohiuddin Faruki said: “After being notified, we went to the house and recovered the hanging bodies.”
“Before fully investigating the matter, we can’t confirm whether the father committed suicide after killing his son. The bodies were sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
“Post-mortem reports will determine the cause of death,” said the police official.
Quoting family members, he added that Arin was physically disabled and his father Shohag was suffering from psychological issues due to losses in his business.
Shohag, who was from Lakshmipur, was also undergoing treatment at a hospital for his issues, he said.
Shohag's wife Nazmun Nahar Nupur was at the market at the time of the incident. Upon her return, she found the flat’s door locked from inside and failed to get any response from her husband or son.
Later, Hatirjheel police recovered their bodies from different rooms.
