Customs officials and Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) on Saturday seized gold ornaments weighing over 2.67 kgs and 92 different brand’s mobile phone sets worth about Tk2 crore at the Green Channel area of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
“Five people were also arrested on charge of bringing those with evading customs duty,” additional superintendent of police (ASP) of airport armed police Md Alamgir Hossain Shimul told BSS.
They (detainees) reached Dhaka from Dubai by an aircraft of Emirates Airlines early Saturday.
The detained passengers identified as Md Amir Hossain, 50, Mahabub Rahman, 35, Abdur Rahman Sarkar, 48, Md Zakir Hossain, 30, and Abdur Rahman, 36.
A case was filed in this connection with the concerned police station, the ASP added.
