Car crashes into Raju Sculpture at DU

A car crashed into the Anti Terrorism Raju Memorial sculpture at Dhaka University campus early morning on Tuesday, damaging its boundary area. The driver of the car lost control over the steering wheel and drove straight at the sculpture base. After the incident, he ran away. Two female passengers were caught by officers of the Shahbagh police station but later freed.Witnesses said the driver of the Toyota Premio, headed from Doyel Chattar at high speed, drove toward the sculpture’s base after failing to hit the brakes. Some DU students had found the car passengers were drunk before the accident. Sub-Inspector Mohammad Badrul said police rushed to the spot and seized the vehicle. Acting university Proctor Prof M Amzad Ali said: “We will take a decision in this matter after speaking with the car owner.”
