Around two hundred doctors and hospital staff of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital on Wednesday protested over their dues.

They blocked the office of hospital Director Prof Md Morshed in the morning and protested outside of the director’s room.

Later, some of the protesters entered the director’s room and asked him when they were going to get their dues.

One of the senior staff nurses claimed that they are not getting paid for five months straight.

Another staff member of the hospital said he went to the director who told him there is no fund to pay them.

Director Dr Md Morshed said: “During Covid-19, only the salary of July is due. We are now turning the hospital into a non-covid hospital. We talked to the government. One month’s due would be provided within next Sunday.”

He said the salary of two more months in the last four years is also due.

Asked when the other dues would be paid, the hospital director could not confirm when they will be paid.

Ramna police station Officer in-Charge (OC) Md Monirul Islam said the hospital staff demonstrated for half an hour.

During the demonstration, hospital services were stopped as nurses joined the protest as well, he added.

The hospital staff resumed their work when they were told that their one month’s salary would be given on Sunday, the OC said.
