However, the police official did not clarify which murders they were involved in

The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) of Bangladesh Police is looking for four as yet unnamed members of the banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam. They are wanted for their alleged involvement in the murders of a number of bloggers at various times.

The law enforcement agency posted photographs of the four men on its Facebook page, seeking information about them.

“If you have any information about these members of the banned organization Ansar al-Islam involved in the killings of several bloggers in Bangladesh, please let us know with a message, phone call, or the Hello CT app. Your identity will be kept completely secret,” the post read.

“Some of them were involved in a number of blogger killings and have been mentioned in different charge sheets,” said Saiful Islam, deputy commissioner of CTTC.

However, the police official did not clarify which murders they were involved in.

They are on the run, and their names and addresses are still unknown to the police, said Saiful.

“Their photos were provided by militants previously arrested. However, they did not disclose any other details,” he added.

Their ID cards were found but they used fake names and addresses, the deputy commissioner continued.

Several bloggers and writers were killed by militants over the last few years in Bangladesh.

Avijit Roy, was one such writer advocating secularism. His killing in 2015, near Dhaka University’s TSC, sent shockwaves around the world.

Such killings became more frequent since the Shahbag protests in February 2013 following demands for the capital punishment of Abdul Quader Mollah who was sentenced to life imprisonment and convicted on five counts of war crimes by the International Crimes Tribunal, Bangladesh.

CTTC says they are trying their best to root out militancy in Bangladesh.
