A 20-year-old youth has been stabbed to death by an unknown miscreant in broad daylight on a street in Dhaka city.
The incident occurred in the capital’s Bakshibazar area under Chawkbazar police station around 12:30pm on Sunday, said Chawkbazar police Sub-Inspector (SI) Mallik Abdul Halim.
Nayan Ahmed Nadin was declared dead by duty doctors after he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 1:15pm.
Police also detained for questioning Nayan’s friend Sohan, 19, who was with him at the time of the attack.
Sohan told reporters that he and Nayan were on their way to buy some motorcycle parts.
“We were looking for a rickshaw near Bakshibazar intersection. Nayan was behind me when suddenly one guy from a Tajia procession – which had around 15 to 20 youths – came running, stabbed Nayan on the left side of his chest and ran away immediately,” Sohan said.
SI Mallik said Nayan’s body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
“We will be able to say more on the matter after receiving the autopsy report. Necessary steps will be taken upon further investigation,” he added.
Nayan’s elder sister Moyna Begum, who arrived at DMCH afterwards, said she found out about her brother’s death from his friends.
