Summer heat grips Dhaka, met office predicts rain

Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country, said a met office release

Dhaka dwellers has been suffering from the summer heat since Saturday as they celebrated EId-ul-Azha, the second biggest religious festival of the Muslims.

The maximum temperature recorded in Dhaka on Saturday was 34.6°C, according to Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Meanwhile, the met office predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers in different parts of Bangladesh, including Dhaka, on Sunday.

“Light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Sylhet and Chittagong divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna and Barisal divisions with moderately heavy falls at country’s isolated places today,” said a met office release.

Day and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.

The axis of monsoon trough runs through Panjab, Hariyana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal then northeastwards to Assam and across central parts of Bangladesh.

One of its associated troughs extends up to the North Bay. Monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate over North Bay.

In Bangladesh, maximum temperature on Saturday was recorded 37°C at Jessore and minimum temperature on Sunday 25°C at Syedpur.

Maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6am on Sunday was recorded 36 mm at Bogra.

The sun sets at 6.41pm on Sunday and rises at 5.29am on Monday in Dhaka.
