A suspected drug trader has been killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Dakshinkhan area of Dhaka.
The incident happened early on Wednesday.
The deceased, Ripon Howlader, 35, had 16 cases filed against him, including drug cases, with different police stations.
RAB-1 Company Commander Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Salauddin said: “On information of drugs being traded, a team of RAB conducted a drive in Ashiyan city area of Dakshinkhan."
“As we reached the spot, the drug traders opened fire on us, initiating a gunfight.”
When the law enforcers retaliated, the criminals fled the spot leaving Ripon severely injured, he added.
Later, Ripon succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, said Salauddin.
“The body is now in Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College morgue for autopsy,” he added.
RAB also recovered a shooter gun, a pistol, five rounds of bullets and 1,930 yaba pills from the spot.
