DGHS: 287 buildings under DNCC fined Tk9.56 lakh for harbouring Aedes larvae

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has said 287 buildings under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) have been fined a total of Tk9.56 lakh after inspection teams found Aedes larvae and pupae on their establishments.

DGHS Additional Director General (Administration) Prof Nasima Sultana disclosed the information at the beginning of the daily online bulletin on the country coronavirus situation, on Sunday afternoon.

As part of the monitoring activities of the National Malaria Elimination and Aedes Transmitted Disease Control Program under the Communicable Disease Control (CDC) following the Aedes Survey 2020, 15 teams from the program working in 39 wards jointly with the DNCC found Aedes larvae and pupae in 287 establishments out of a total of 2,649 houses, she said.

After the inspection, buildings having Aedes larvae were by fined Tk9.56 lakh by an executive magistrate.  

The inspection teams also sprayed disinfectants and pesticides in several potential breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes in the respective wards.

The monitoring activity began on July 4 and will continue till July 14 in DNCC areas.
