A minor’s dead body was recovered from a septic tank in the capital’s Monipur area on Friday evening.
Eight-year-old Siam Sheikh was identified as the deceased. Siam’s cousin, Rakib, 24, was arrested by the police in connection to the murder.
Confirming the matter, Monir Hossain Khan, superintendent (SI) of police at Mirpur police station, said Siam lived with his father, Bashar Sheikh, in the West Monipur area. Bashar is a caretaker of a building in the neighbourhood.
As Siam was missing since Thursday, Bashar filed a verbal complaint with the police station on Friday. He had suspicions that Rakib had something to do with the incident.
Afterwards, police detained and interrogated Rakib, who later confessed to killing Siam and hiding his body in a septic tank, said Monir, also the investigation officer.
Based on the information provided by Rakib, Siam’s body was recovered from the tank on Friday evening.
The police official said Rakib had killed Siam over an argument regarding a silly incident.
