Several neighbourhoods at Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Ward no. 41 of in Wari will go into a three-week lockdown from Saturday in a bid to contain the transmission of Covid-19.

Three main roads and five feeder roads in the ward are under the lockdown, as previously announced by authorities.

The main roads marked off as red zones are Tipu Sultan Road, Jahangir Road, and the road between Joykali Temple and Baldha Garden. The feeder roads are Larmini Street, Hare Street, Wyre Street, Rankin Street, and Nawab Street.

The authorities already took necessary precautions including preparation of standard operation procedures and creating awareness in the area for the imposition of lockdown.

Restrictions have been made at some entry and exit points in the areas so no one will be allowed to enter the area while unnecessary movement in these areas will remain prohibited, said officials at DSCC.

The city corporation will provide food and health support to residents depending on their requirements.

People in the lockdown area will enjoy a public holiday while all offices and businesses in the area will remain shut. Residents of the areas will have to rely on deliveries from restaurants, while grocery stores and pharmacies will remain open for walk-in customers.

People will be allowed to shop in marketplaces only when necessary.

Movement of rickshaws, vans, taxis, auto-rickshaws and even private cars will not be allowed inside the demarcated areas during the 21-day lockdown.

There will be facilities for Covid-19 tests for suspected patients, and home or institutional isolation will be arranged for those who test positive.

Mosques and other places of worship can remain open but only for staff and their officials, and not for local residents.

ATM services will remain operational, and banks can stay open in a limited capacity.

Earlier, the Dhaka North City Corporation put West Rajabazar under a 21-day lockdown from June 10 to contain the spread of coronavirus. During the period, the authorities successfully contained the transmission of the disease and this is why Wari was later demarcated for lockdown.
