Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said militancy is under control in the country, but this success must be maintained to eradicate the roots of militancy.

Mamun made the remark in a press briefing to the media on Wednesday morning on the fourth anniversary of the terrorist attack on Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan of the capital.

He said: “Militancy is a global problem, the whole world is working to combat militancy groups. I think we have successfully implemented counter-insurgency activities and we hope that this success will continue.”

“We cannot afford to be complacent,” he added.

Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun said, RAB forces have been conducting various anti-militant operations in the country since the Holey Artisan attack.

Regarding the Holey Artisan attack case he said: “Cases have been filed against the militant members accused in the Holey Artisan attack. The charge sheet has been submitted to the court and the case is currently under trial. We hope for a swift resolution to the trial and that the convicted are punished accordingly.”

RAB arrested 2,000 militant members before the Holey Artisan attack and 1,000 more after the attack.

Even amidst the current pandemic, RAB is conducting anti-militancy operations in different parts of the country and arresting terrorists.

He added: “Whenever members of a militant group are making a plan, we are able to detect their scheme by means of intelligence information.”
