Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed has warned members of Bangladesh Police that anyone involved with drug dealing will not be spared and will face dire consequences.
"If a policeman gets involved with the drug business or takes bribes, he will be sent to jail,” Benazir said.
The police chief was speaking after inaugurating a 200-bed barracks at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's (DMP) Regional Police Lines in Uttara’s Diabari area of Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.
“No member of the police force can take drugs or co-operate with any drug peddlers. They cannot accept any bribes either. Achieving zero corruption is our goal,” Benazir said.
“If there is cancer in the body, we remove that part from the body. If any of our members are involved with misdeeds, we must remove them ruthlessly from Bangladesh Police,” he added.
He also said: “We expect that all of us will overcome the Covid-19 pandemic with the least number of casualties by following the directives of the prime minister.”
He also asked everyone to wear masks when leaving their homes. “You don’t need expensive sanitizers to wash your hands, normal soap is good enough.”
