The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Dhaka West, a nonprofit organization, has launched a series of webinars to address, educate and raise awareness about the importance of sound mental and physical health.
The first webinar of this series, titled “Be Mindful in Crisis,” addressed issues of bipolar disorder, negative automatic thoughts, anxiety, sleeping and eating disorder as well as expression through social media.
The hour-long webinar was streamed on Tuesday and had 1,600 live viewers.
Dr Helal Uddin Ahmed, associate professor of child adolescent and family psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Hospital, was the guest speaker of the webinar, and 2020 Local General Legal Counsel of JCI Dhaka West Md Altamis Nabil was the moderator.
Dr Helal spoke of ways to cope with phobia, family conflicts, depression and simple mental exercises such as the five senses of mindfulness.
An initial analysis by JCI Dhaka West, through an online survey, shows that 64% of the respondents suffered from depression, and about 85% of these people felt stressed.
In this time of crisis due to a challenging and uncertain future, JCI Dhaka West understands the urgent need for mental awareness and improvement and thereby launched these webinars under Project Biborton.
In the coming weeks, Project Biborton plans to teach easy at home exercises through two interactive workshops and further focus on mindfulness through another mental health oriented webinar.
