RAB arrests 2, seizes heroin worth Tk50 lakh

A consignment of heroin, weighing about 500 grams, was seized from a sack of mango inside a pressure cooker during the raid

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two persons for smuggling heroin worth Tk50 lakh from Elephant Road in the capital on Monday morning.

A consignment of heroin, weighing about 500 grams, was seized from a sack of mango inside a pressure cooker during the raid.

RAB-2 Company Commander Mohiuddin Faruque confirmed the incident, saying: “They were smuggling it (the heroin) through a consignment of mango using a courier service.”

“They were living at Munshiganj, but came here to withdraw the consignment,” he added.

The arrestees, Habibur Rahman Babu, 29, and Dilruba Deepa, 27 claimed to be a married couple.

“The criminals were smuggling heroin through child food, seasonal fruits, and so on using courier service,” said Mohiuddin Faruque.

“They were hoping to receive heroin worth Tk50 lakh to Tk2 crore in three or four consignments using the courier service.”

A case will be lodged against them with New Market police station under the narcotics control act,1990, added the company commander.
