An elderly resident has died of Covid-19 in the capital's East Rajabazar area, marked as a red zone and placed under lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.
The man, aged over 60, died on Thursday morning, confirmed Md Masud Hossain, zonal executive officer of zone 5 at Karwan Bazar under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
“He tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday, and became seriously ill on Thursday morning,” he said.
“After calling 999, his family called for an ambulance. Upon taking him to the United Hospital, the doctor declared him dead.”
The deceased was employed at the United Hospital.
He was living in his residence in the East Rajabazar area which is currently undergoing an experimental 14-day lockdown starting June 9.
The area is under strict lockdown, with no one except those on emergency duty, including doctors, nurses, and journalists, allowed to go outside.
