The wife of a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) officer has sued her husband over torturing for dowry.
The accused, Nazmus Shakib is an assistant superintendent of police (ASP), who is now posted at the RAB headquarters.
His wife Israt Rahman filed a case with Ramna police station on Thursday, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam.
OC Monirul said they are investigating the matter.
The wife’s lawyer Ishrat Hasan said her client was married to Shakib for three years and from the very beginning, he had been torturing his wife for dowry.
“The wife’s family has already paid a good amount of money as dowry in the last three years and now the officer is demanding for more”, she added.
The wife is now pregnant and Shakib is forcing her to abort it, said the lawyer.
ASP Shakib now serves as a senior assistant director of Communications and MIS wing at RAB headquarters.
Despite several attempts Shakib could not be reached over phone for a comment.
RAB’s Legal and Media wing Director Lt Col Sarwar Bin Kashem said they were informed about the case.
Shakib also informed them that he had previously filed four general diaries against his wife for torturing him, Sarwar said before adding they will speak with the families and take necessary steps.
