Biman Bangladesh Airlines has canceled all of its flights on Tuesday due to a lack of passengers. The airline had flights in three different routes.
However, all Biman flights are set to resume on Wednesday.
Tahera Khondoker, deputy general manager (public relations) of Biman confirmed the decision to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday morning.
The national flag carrier airline’s spokesperson said: “As per the demand of passengers, four flights will be operated in the Dhaka to Chittagong, Sylhet, and Saidpur routes on Wednesday. One flight each will be operated on the Chittagong and Sylhet routes, and another two in the Saidpur route.”
In addition, Biman is offering tickets at lower prices, making their fares more affordable amidst the current crisis. Tickets now cost Tk2500 for the Dhaka-Chittagong or Dhaka-Sylhet lights. Dhaka Saidpur flights costs Tk2700.
On the other hand, US-Bangla Airlines, one of the leading private airlines of the country, are scheduled to operate 10 flights on Tuesday on the same routes.
“Six flights will depart for Chittagong, one for Sylhet, and three to Saidpur,” said US-Bangla General Manager (public relations) Kamrul Islam.
Another private airline Novoair will operate seven flights on Tuesday - three in the Chittagong route, one in the Sylhet route, and three in the Saidpur route. Novoair Senior Marketing and Sales Manager AKM Mahfuzul Alam made the announcement.
Domestic flight operations in the country are being run at a reduced scale from Monday after a hiatus of almost two months due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A week after the first virus cases were reported on March 8, Bangladesh suspended visa-on-arrivals for all countries on March 15 and banned some international flights the next day.
Two weeks later, on March 31, the civil aviation authority suspended all passenger flights till April 7, which was gradually extended to May 30.
