A man has been killed in a “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at a check post at Agargaon.

The incidents took place in Link Road area of Agargaon around 5:30am on Thursday.

Two RAB men were injured during the shooting.

The deceased was identified as Md Kabir, 45 from Gazipur's Sreepur.

RAB said at least 13 cases were filed against Kabir under narcotics and arms acts.

RAB-2 Special Company commander SP Mohiuddin Faruki confirmed the matter.

He said 30,000 pieces of yaba pills, foreign weapons including bullets and motorcycles were recovered from the spot.

“RAB men were at a check post on the road in front of Pangu Hospital in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Dhaka when two men came from Shyamoli on a motorcycle. Just before the check post, one of them got down after sensing the presence of RAB. Then suddenly another one started firing from the motorcycle,” Mohiuddin added.

“In retaliation, RAB members also fired back. At one point, Kabir was hit and was seen lying on the spot. He was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead,” the SP added.

The body was kept at Suhrawardy Medical College morgue for an autopsy.

The two injured RAB members were being treated at the hospital, RAB SP added.
