A Dhaka Court has placed a suspect on a three-day remand in a case filed on charges of raping a six-year-old child in the capital’s Kadamtoli area.
Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah passed the order after police produced him in court, seeking a ten-day remand for interrogation, on Sunday.
The accused, Tutul, 22, was arrested from Muradpur in Kadamtali on Friday night based on a pencil sketch prepared by an artist.
Earlier, on April 25, a six-year-old child was raped in Dhaka’s Kadamtoli area.
A case was filed by the victim’s family with Kadamtali police station after the child was rescued from a five-storey building that day.
Following that, police collected CCTV footage from at least 16 houses in the vicinity of the rape scene, informed Kadamtali police station Inspector Kamruzzaman.
Video footage showed a youth holding the girl's hand while walking down the street, but he could not be identified as he was wearing a mask.
Later, an artist drew a sketch of the suspect and 100 copies of that sketch were made into posters.
After putting up the posters in the area, a person called police and confirmed the identity of the young man.
