Police have arrested three men for the rape of a 17-year-old girl in Dhaka's Shyampur.
A case was filed over the incident on Tuesday, a day after the incident, Shyampur police's Officer-in-Charge Sheikh Abdur Razzak told the Dhaka Tribune.
A Dhaka court on Wednesday permitted police to interrogate the suspects for two days. The accused have denied the allegation.
The victim was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday.
OC Razzak said the girl had gone to a Dholaikhal restaurant on Monday evening. On their way back they were stopped by locally known thugs Din Islam alias Tulu, 28, Humayun alias Huma, 28, Shamim Talukder, 20, Dillu, 20, and Ramjan, 30.
They demanded Tk5,000 from them. Minutes later, they separated the two and took the girl to an abandoned house where Tulu allegedly raped her.
The boy rushed home after he was released by the thugs and informed the family about the ordeal. Family members rescued the girl from the spot. Her father filed a case with Shyampur police on Tuesday accusing the five men.
RAB arrested them from the locality in the evening, shortly after the incident.
