Police have arrested a mosque imam for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in Dhaka.
The suspect, Nazir Hossain, 23, imam of Kurmitola East Bus Stand Jame Mosque and was held on Thursday morning.
Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Pallabi police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Aklima Akhter, said: "A case has been filed in this regard.The girl was sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH)for medical checkup."
"During primary interrogation the accused confessed to his crimes."
According to police, the girl went to the mosque on Thursday morning to learn Arabic. At one point the imam took her to a nearby field and raped her around 6am.
The rape survivor then came home and informed her mother about the incident. Later, the girl's mother filed a case with Pallabi police station.
"We have also collected evidences of the rape from the spot," Aklima added.
