A pregnant woman has been hacked and critically injured by several unidentified “robbers” inside her home at Mirpur in Dhaka.
The incident took place around 5:30pm on Wednesday, at a flat on the fourth floor of a building in Shah Ali area of Mirpur 1 Block C, according to woman’s husband.
The five-month pregnant victim, identified as Zobaida Jalal Samantha, 19, she lived in that rented flat with her husband Mahbub Hossain Rana and his mother.
Mahbub brought Samantha to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 7:30pm with sharp weapon wounds on her throat and hands, said DMCH police outpost’s In-Charge Inspector Bachchu Mia.
“She has been admitted and is undergoing treatment,” he added.
Quoting his wife, Mahbub said she was home alone and sleeping when the ‘robbers’ broke into their home. “They haphazardly hacked her with sharp weapons when they tried to subdue her and she fought back. She said they looted money and gold jewelleries during the attack.
“I was at the clothing store where I work. After being informed, I rushed home and took her to the hospital.”
It could not be learnt immediately whether the robbers broke into and robbed any other flat of that building, and what legal measures the family was taking.
