BNP- Jamaat backed candidates win president, secretary posts of Dhaka Bar polls

The Awami League-backed White Panel has lost almost all the crucial posts, including the posts of president and general secretary, in elections to the Dhaka Bar Association for 2020-21.

The Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Oikkaya BNP-Jamaat (Blue panel), backed by the BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami coalition, won 10 posts out of 23.

Senior Advocate Munshi Fakrul Islam, chief election commissioner of the Dhaka Bar Association, on Saturday announced the results of the two-day election held on February 26 and 27.

The White Panel managed to secure 13 posts, with its Senior Vice-President candidate Abdul Kader, Vice-President Imam Hossain Monju, Senior Assistant-General Secretary AKM Habibur Rahman Chunnu, Assistant-General Secretary Sikder Mohammad Akteruzzaman Himel, Library Secretary Md Ataur Rahman Khan Ruku, Cultural Affairs Secretary Taslima Akter Rikta, Sports Secretary Saiful Islam Sumon and Social Welfare Secretary Shaila Pervin Pia emerging triumphant.

AHM Shafikul Islam Sohag, Mehedi Hasan Merin, Ramjan Ali Sarder Rana, Sabbir Hossain and Saiful Islam were elected executive committee members from the White Panel.

Additionally, the pro-BNP Blue Panel’s Md Iqbal Hossain and Hossain Ali Khan Hasan were elected president and general secretary from the panel respectively. Abdullah Al Mamun and HM Masum were elected treasurer and office secretary, in that order. 

 Azhar Uddin Ripon, Qazi Afroza Sultana (Eva), Abdul Baset Rakhi, Tanvir Hasan Sohel, Yasin Miah, and Sadekul Islam Bhuiyan (Jadu) were elected executive committee members from the Blue Panel.
