'Talking to neighbours and locals, we believe the killings took place at least two days ago'

Update : 14 Feb 2020, 07:42 PM

A woman and her two children were found dead in a flat of a multi-storey building in the capital’s Dakshinkhan area on Friday.

Police primarily suspect that the trio was murdered.

The deceased woman was identified as Munni, 37, her son Farhan,11, and daughter Laiba, 3.

Nabid Kamal Shaibal, deputy commissioner of Uttara Division at Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said they were informed about the incident by the deceased’s relatives, neighbours and locals after strong smell started emitting from the house where the trio was found dead later.

“We think it is a case of murder. However, we’ve already started investigating the deaths to verify if they were killed or it was a case of suicide after homicide,” he told reporters.

The deceased’s relatives claimed that they were trying to reach Munni over the phone for the past few days, but in vain.

They finally went to the house, only to find them dead.

“Talking to neighbours and locals, we believe the killings took place at least two days ago,” some police officers told reporters.

Policemen rushed to the spot and found the bodies in a flat on the fourth floor of a five-storey building near KC Model School of Prembagan around 5:30pm, said Sub-Inspector (SI) KM Mansur Ali of Dakshinkhan police station.

As of 10:30pm, the bodies were not taken to morgue and no case was filed. No arrest was made either.

According to locals and police, Munni’s husband Rakib Uddin Ahmed, sub-assistant engineer of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL), was not at the crime scene.

They said Rakib was not seen in the area for the past few days.

The Crime Scene Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) also reached the spot to collect evidence, and restricted it to outsiders.

Medical science says that internal organs decompose 24-72 hours after death.

And three to days after death, the corpse the body starts to bloat and blood-containing foam leaks from the mouth and nose.
