Election Commission Senior Secretary Md Alamgir has said non-residents of Dhaka or non-voters will not be allowed near polling centres during the upcoming Dhaka South and North City Corporation elections on February 1.
He made this statement after meeting with a delegation from the Dhaka metropolitan police (DMP) at EC Secretariat on Wednesday.
“We have discussed three issues with DMP officials. It has been decided that non-residents or non-voters will not be allowed near polling centres and barred from roaming the streets of the capital aimlessly on the polling day,” he said.
He also directed voters to leave the polling station as soon as they cast their votes and avoid gathering near polling centres.
“After holding a separate meeting with the CEC, 14-party alliance and DMP expressed their satisfaction on the EC’s preparations for holding the polls in a peaceful environment,” said Md Alamgir.
