The Santrash Birodhi Chhatra Oikya has demanded immediate removal of the Dhaka University (DU) proctor for failing to provide security for the students.
The alliance of 12 student organizations also placed a four-point demand to ensure a safe, terror-free and democratic environment on the campus, otherwise they will demonstrate on January 23.
Holding a press conference at Modhur canteen, on Thursday, Bangladesh Chhatra Federation General Secretary Faisal Mahmud placed the demands on behalf of the alliance.
He said the environment on the DU campus continues to deteriorate further as organizations linked with the ruling party maintain a reign of terror.
They also blamed the university's administration and the proctor for failing to take any steps in this regard.
Other demands of the alliance include, allocation of seats in every residential halls under the supervision of the university administration, eradicating terrorism, seat grabbing and "guest room" culture in all the halls, trial and permanent expulsion of those involved in the attack at the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) building, and ending all kinds of harassment of general students.
Apart from these demands, the student unity also expressed deep concern over the rising number of rape incidents across the country, including the rape of a DU student at Dhaka's Kurmitola area.
They demanded trial and punishment of those involved in crimes against women and children, and urged the government to ensure their security.
'Don't want voting on Puja day'
About the City Corporations election scheduled on the day of Saraswati Puja, Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice President (VP) Nurul Haque Nur said: “It (Sarwaswati Puja) is a festival of the Hindu religious people and is observed by everybody irrespective of religions and castes. We don’t want the polls on the day.”
The alliance members are: Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, Chhatra Federation (Gana Samhati Andolon), Samajtantrik Chhatra Front (Marxist), Samajtantrik Chhatra Front (BSD), Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Biplobi Chhatra Moitri, Bangladesh Chhatra Federation (Jatiya Mukti Council), Biplobi Chhatra-Jubo Andolan, Greater Chittagong Hill Tracts Pahari Chhatra Parishad, Nagarik Chhatra Oikya, Swatantra Jote, and Chhatra Moncho.
