Update : 16 Jan 2020, 02:46 PM

Chhatra Dal members staged a demonstration in Dhaka University premises demanding rescheduling of Dhaka city polls slated for January 30.

Members of BNP's student wing gathered at Madhur Canteen in the university campus around 11am on Thursday.

Later, they marched towards Anti Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture, and stayed there for around 20 minutes and left university grounds around 11:50am.

About a hundred Chhatra Dal members, including its Central Committee President Fazlur Rahman Khokon, General Secretary Iqbal Hossain Shyamol, among other central and university committee members, were present during the demonstration.

Khokhon said: “The Election Commission has scheduled the Dhaka city polls on the day of the Saraswati Puja, which is completely unacceptable. The religious sentiment of the Hindu community has been hurt because of it. We demand the rescheduling of the polls.”

Meanwhile, urging the government to release Khaleda Zia from jail, he said: “Khaleda Zia is being held under false cases. She is also being tortured whereas top terrors are walking free on bail.

“In this way, she is being driven to her death slowly.”

The leaders also alleged that the BNP candidates for the upcoming Dhaka city corporations elections are being threatened.
